TV9 Telugu reported that a civil court judge in Andhra Pradesh’s Gannavaram on Wednesday ordered the police to shift TDP spokesperson Pattabhi Ram to the Gannavaram sub-jail.
This comes after he was sent to judicial custody on Tuesday but had complained of third-degree injuries and beatings by the police. Medical examination revealed that there was no major injury other than swelling on his hand.
Pattabhi Ram and several others were arrested and remanded to judicial custody in a case of attempt to murder under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on a complaint filed by Gannavaram circle inspector Kanaka Rao. The Inspector alleged that the accused had instigated TDP workers and put his life at risk.
This comes after clashes broke out between YSRCP and TDP workers on Monday as the TDP office in Gannavaram was ransacked and vehicles outside the party office were set ablaze. The violence and the detention of its leaders have been denounced by the TDP.
The YSRCP said the police arrested the leaders who reached the Gannavaram office after learning about the attack. Several TDP leaders were also put under house arrest after the party gave a call for ‘Chalo Gannavaram’ to protest against the attack on their office.
